He’s a Bad Boy

 Little Rudy has been having an off day today. He has been up to a ton of mischief. Take a look at the criminal trying to look innocent.

While Mom is wrapping Christmas presents, Rudy is finding his. He definitely made Santa’s naughty list.

He found these treats that were supposed to be a shared gift with his sister.

All this mischief after getting one present early. Rudy and Sadie have figured out this already.

Good News

It has been a while since I last posted. Today I want to share with you our happy, happy news. We have a new baby! Sadie finally has a playmate. She loves to play with her new brother Rudy. Rudy is a little boy chihuahua. His coloring is much lighter than Sadie's is. They have the same mother but they have different fathers from the same branch of their family tree. Rudy isn't too photogenic yet, he wiggles and puts his ears down so it is hard to get a good pic. Here's what the kids look like.

No One to Play With 😢

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and we had a very small celebration due to the pandemic. My mother-in-law, Sadie’s omi, came for dinner with her furry baby Sofia. Sofia is in her doggie elder years so she likes to take it easy much more than a youngster like Sadie does. Sadie tried her best to play with Sofia who was having nothing to do with it. 

Eventually, Sadie wore herself out and was happy to be held on her omi’s lap. 

We hope that all of you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Sadie Remodels

 Sadie loves to be in the kitchen when I am in there. She has a little bed under the counter by the stool I sit on. Today, she decided she didn't like things the way they were so she remodeled by taking the round pillow out of her bed and putting it closer to where my feet usually rest when I am sitting at my usual place. I looked in her bed and there were all sorts of crumbs and miscellaneous items like twigs in it. Here's a glimpse of what she did. She is so proud of herself. When she was a little bit younger, you can see where she tried to eat the cabinet. She still likes to chew on things but she is getting better as she gets older. Next week she will be 8 months old so she is still going through puppy stages.

Sadie Is in Recovery Mode

 Sadie went to the vet last week and had a couple surgeries. Like good pet owners, we had Sadie spayed. She had some baby teeth that did not come out so she also had 2 teeth extracted. If that wasn't enough, we had her microchipped too. Sadie was able to come home the same day and the poor baby was very groggy. Here's a look at the poor darling--

I was so sad to see my furry baby subdued and out of it. It is usually hard keeping up with her and keeping her out of things and places she shouldn't be in but the next day she was either asleep or sitting in someone's lap. As bad as I felt having all that done to her, it was all done with going under anesthesia one time. She will be healthier for it and that's worth a few days of being groggy.

Sadie's Playtime

 Sadie loves to play. She plays with people, her omi's chihuahua and toys. She has a box of toys scattered all over the house. Oops, husband's laundry basket is there too so I guess Sadie isn't the only one to blame for the mess--😁. She's so darned cute though that she probably gets away with more than she should. Here's a short video for you to see her in action.

Daily Grooming with Omi

 Sadie loves her omi and her omi loves her. Omi comes over to visit with Sadie every day. They play, give kisses to each other and Omi brushes her. Sadie loves getting brushed and looking pretty. Here's a picture of Sadie being groomed by Omi.

For those of you who are wondering what "omi" means, it is a less formal way of saying "grandmother" in German. Omi originally came from Germany so we have adopted a few German traditions.

Life with Sadie

Hello everyone, it's Sadie's mom. Life has certainly changed since Sadie came to live with us. Sadie's dad and I had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy child. She is one active little girl. As any parent knows, when your child is being quiet, then chances are they're up to no good. The other day it had been very silent in our house and no sight of Sadie for a few minutes. I went to look for her and found her in the kitchen with a most guilty look on her face. She had jumped and was able to pull a partial pack of hotdog buns off the counter and was having a carbohydrate feast! That will teach us to leave the edge of the bag hanging off the counter. 

In this picture, Sadie has her favorite "baby." She loves this toy and it is already getting ragged and dirty. I may try to wash it and see how that works. She has plenty of other toys that you can see in the background. Sadie may be a mischievous imp but we love her. She keeps us so busy that we don't have the time to feel sad over Nellie Belle's passing although I do have some very special memories of her that I recall every now and then.

Chihuahua Mom

My Name is Sadie

Hello everyone! I am Sadie. I just moved in a few weeks ago. I was born on March 22nd of this year. My first few months were in a loving home where I received lots of hugs and cuddles. My new mom says that made it easier for me to be a sweetheart.

I am still a puppy though and I like to explore new things. My new mom says "Sadie, don't chew on cords!' or when I'm outside "Sadie don't eat bird seed/leaf/twigs. Dad has this loud machine to clean the outside up but I can always find something to gnaw on. 

Mom and Dad were very sad after my big sister (I never met her) died. They brought me home and not to be smug, I cheered them right up. I haven't warmed up to Dad yet. Prior to moving here, I had very little contact with men. My dad seems nice but I have to take my time becoming friends with him. 

Mom has spoiled me a little bit with toys and a new bed that looks like a tepee. Guess with all that and the cuddles I get I am a pretty lucky girl.

A Forgotten Post re: A Visit to the Dog Park

This is a post that has been sitting in the draft folder for a few years. I have not kept up with this blog. I did however, want to let you know that Nellie Belle has crossed to the other side on June 29th, 2020. She had been treated for a heart murmur for many years. After so many years, the medication no longer worked and she couldn't take a big drink of water without fainting and so a difficult decision had to be made. We were devastated by the loss of Nellie. The vet we took her to, recommended that we get another little one. No one could take Nellie's place but another little one could help to heal our hearts. We did adopt another little chihuahua and I will introduce you to her at another time.

The family became snowbirds this winter. We're enjoying the warm weather and are thankful we were able to be away from the awful weather. The area we live in here in Florida doesn't allow fences so Nellie has to be walked when she needs to do her "duty." There is an area here that is known as a dog park. It is just a small lot that is fenced in and your canine kids are able to run and frolic off their leashes. Nellie was very excited when we walked to the dog park.

Opi Has Passed

Our Opi has passed away. He hasn't been feeling well lately. He went to the vet yesterday morning and was given some antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection and lasix for some fluid on his heart. The vet was optimistic that with the meds Opi would be around much longer. Unfortunately, this morning when my husband got up, he found Opi deceased on the step between our kitchen and family room.

Here's the new shirt my mom bought me. She keeps me in shirts because I scratch my back and I can't do it with a shirt on. I think this shirt is goofy because I'm always going to look short because I'm a chihuahua! What do you think?

Nellie Belle and Her Oldest Brother

Hey, this is Nellie Belle. I love it when Matt, my oldest brother, comes over once a week because I usually can get Mom to take me for a car ride to pick up Matthew and his laundry that he does at my house. Matthew is a great cuddler and I love to cuddle with him when he's here. Here's a picture of us.

All I Got

Was this silly t-shirt! My mom went to see some friends for a couple weeks and I really missed her. She came home full of hugs for me and my sister Nellie Belle and then she dressed me in this new shirt from California. Like, California has doggie haute couture--RUFF RUFF!

Opi Has the Itchies

Hi, Opi here. My allergies have been kicking in big time. My mom has been keeping a shirt on me so I don't scratch myself up. One night she took it off for a few minutes to let my skin get some air and I got out of hand scratching myself. Mom had to take me to the vet again.  He gave me a stronger steroid shot this time. This shot is giving me a case of roid rage and I'm a grumpy guy right now. I do get extra attention from my mom and I kind of like that but don't tell her .

Anyway, here I am kicking back in my usual place--Dad's recliner.

Christmas Sweaters

Hi, it's Opi and Nellie Belle here. It used to be on Christmas, Santa Claus would bring us yummy goodies for presents. This year, the jolly ol' guy had Mom make us Christmas sweaters. Nellie doesn't like clothes at all and she only kept hers on for a few minutes. Opi loves clothes, he claims the only problem he has with his new sweater is that it isn't guy friendly and when he went outside to take a tinkle, he tinkled on his pretty new sweater! Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and will have an even better New Year...

Update on Opi

Opi here. Today as I was snoozing on the recliner, my mom "attacked me" with the camera. Now, I'm normally a nice guy but I was taking a N-A-P when she started taking pictures so I didn't smile for her. Mom thought I might want to show you my new duds that I'm wearing. I have to wear shirts because my allergies make me itchy and I scratch myself. The last time my allergies flared up, I went to the vet for my shot but my fur hasn't grown back yet. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
