Sadie loves to play. She plays with people, her omi's chihuahua and toys. She has a box of toys scattered all over the house. Oops, husband's laundry basket is there too so I guess Sadie isn't the only one to blame for the mess--😁. She's so darned cute though that she probably gets away with more than she should. Here's a short video for you to see her in action.

Life with Sadie
Hello everyone, it's Sadie's mom. Life has certainly changed since Sadie came to live with us. Sadie's dad and I had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy child. She is one active little girl. As any parent knows, when your child is being quiet, then chances are they're up to no good. The other day it had been very silent in our house and no sight of Sadie for a few minutes. I went to look for her and found her in the kitchen with a most guilty look on her face. She had jumped and was able to pull a partial pack of hotdog buns off the counter and was having a carbohydrate feast! That will teach us to leave the edge of the bag hanging off the counter.
In this picture, Sadie has her favorite "baby." She loves this toy and it is already getting ragged and dirty. I may try to wash it and see how that works. She has plenty of other toys that you can see in the background. Sadie may be a mischievous imp but we love her. She keeps us so busy that we don't have the time to feel sad over Nellie Belle's passing although I do have some very special memories of her that I recall every now and then.
We hope you are staying safe. Now is the time to take up hobbies or maybe adopt a furry little friend. Take care...

Nellie is NOT a Good Hostess--
Nellie instigates trouble when we have guests so Mom won't let us play outside. Here's Nellie Belle looking sad because we're stuck inside:

Opi claimed the new afghan I made. I made a round ripple afghan that you can see more pictures of on my other blog. Opi knows he's special and thinks that whenever his mommy crochets an afghan it is for him to burrow under. Gee, what a character! Hugs and puppy dog kisses...

Dressed for Easter

Here are my 2 kids dressed for Easter last weekend. Nellie is pretty obvious in her dislike for dressing-up. Opi on the other hand goes with the flow and whether he's nude or dressed to the nines is ok with him.

Chihuahuas on Guard Duty
My neighbor is having a large tree cut down in his backyard. An ice storm earlier this year did severe damage to it and it was a danger to his house. Opi and Nellie Belle have been on guard duty the entire time the tree people sawed and chopped! Very aggravating to me but also reassuring that despite their small stature, these guys are on the alert for potential "invasions." See this short video clip of them on duty.Guard Dog Training

Opi and Nellie B. Go Irish

Here are my kids all dressed in their greenery for St. Patrick's Day!

Opi could care less if his mommy dresses him up or not. He's really been blessed with a ton of patience for his human family.

Nellie B. is pouting. She does NOT like it when her mommy dresses her up! Nellie B. would rather be running around the yard like a nudist.
I got these cute little tees for them at Old Navy. I have found that they get some cute little dog clothes in and the prices aren't too unreasonable. The basic tees are usually priced lower than Wal-mart's.
Opi and Nellie Belle are sending this Irish blessing to you and those you hold dear:
Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Opi Went to Vet Today

Opi went to the vet this afternoon to get a checkup because he wasn't feeling too well. Like small children sometimes do, Opi was playing with his ears and his eyes were kind of glassy-looking too. The vet checked him out and Opi has an ear infection. He received a shot to help relieve the inflammation and it also had an antibiotic in it. Because his ears were only mildly infected, the vet gave him a mild antibiotic in ear drops that I have to give him every other day until it is gone. Opi was a champ. He let the vet tug at his ears and look down them with an otoscope. Opi wore his angel t-shirt so everyone he met thought Opi was the cutest chi they'd ever seen--ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little but he did look adorable lol! Once we arrived home, Opi was worn out and yawning as he settled down for a little snooze as you can see in the 1st photo. In the 2nd photo, Opi is modeling his new t-shirt he got today for being a good boy :). The 3rd photo shows Opi in one of his "nests" that are strategically placed around the house, eating his lunch that he carries over a few pieces at a time from the communal dish.Tuesday, March 3, 2009
Opi Isn't Feeling Too Perky Today
Opi isn't feeling too well today. He's kind of sleepy and sluggish. I'll have to keep an eye on him and make sure that he's getting something to eat and drink. It is very easy for chihuahuas to become dehydrated or hypoglycemic. Once when Opi was younger (about 1 1/2 yrs. old), he gave us a big scare. He was outside playing and romping around the backyard. Then we noticed that he looked like a drunken pooch stumbling and falling down. I grabbed him up and dh called an after hours vet emergency number. They told us to get Opi to drink and eat something. I did that plus I gave him a small spoonful of karo syrup and then my little boy seemed to be his usual self. Needless to say, I think it was tougher on dh and me. We weren't scared--we were TERRIFIED! So, I'm keeping a close eye on my little boy today. Here is an article on hypoglycemia in chihuahuas for your information. Wagging Tails and Hugs...

Introducing Nellie Belle!

Nellie Belle is our little girl chihuahua. She is definitely the alpha dog. She bosses Opi around and when she thinks it's time to go outside to play she will keep after him to go with her by nipping at his butt! She is an independent little thing and will not normally allow me to pick her up--but, at bedtime, she has to cuddle next to me and will growl and defend her place and not let poor Opi near me. He usually cuddles by my legs and Nellie cuddles by my face or will crash in the tiny space between my neck and the pillow! I had to do a little manipulating (who me???) of dh to get Nellie. DH wanted a Corvette (don't all men?) and I told him that if he got a Corvette then I wanted a playmate for Opi. Nellie came to live with us and she has become a Daddy's girl--cuddling with him while he watches tv and she'll let him pick her up. What a traitor even though I told her that if it wasn't for me she'd probably be in a puppy mill lol! So, now you have met my 2 babies, I hope you will come back to visit again.
